Hip-hop royalty took the stage at Saturn Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama on June 6th as Big Boi brought the third leg of the "Daddy Fat Saxxx Tour" to the venue and the city. A sold out crowd, which included Birmingham's mayor, Randal Woodfin, filled the venue to see Big Boi flow on the mic. As an added bonus, he was joined on stage by Sleepy Brown of Organized Noise. They joined forces to give the audience several cuts from Big Boi's solo career while also dropping numerous selections from Outkast's illustrious catalog, such as "Mrs. Jackson", "ATLiens", and "Bombs Over Baghdad". Big Boi even included the amazing "International Player's Anthem" as his encore song. That was fitting considering June 6th was the anniversary of that classic track.
It was an absolute pleasure and delight to be able to photograph this concert by Big Boi. I was also fortunate enough to be able to stay and watch the entire performance, which was top notch. Like many people in the audience for this concert, Outkast has been a personal favorite of mine for years so it was a blast to be able to see Big Boi perform in person. The last time I saw him on stage was in 2002 when Outkast performed as a headliner at Birmingham's City Stages. I can confidently say that, 16 years later, Big Boi was still razor sharp on stage. This was an aces concert by one of hip-hop's true legends.
