I didn't know how I was going to frame the posts I needed to make for March 4th. The reason being is that I knew I'd be pulling double duty in covering shows in Birmingham, Alabama from Dropkick Murphys, who played at Iron City, and Japandroids, who played at Saturn Birmingham. Because of the late hour involved, I'm really just going to cut right to the chase with this one. I hope you will understand.
The night started at Iron City where the was jam packed with fans wanting to see Dropkick Murphys perform. Myself and three other photographer friends of mine, along with a slew of security, packed the photo pit to catch what was a high spirited and high energy show right from the get go. The performance by Dropkick Murphys was lively, lit well, and incredibly fun to photograph, even if beer and random concert goers were flying in our direction.
As soon as our song limit finished, I rushed out of the pit and through the crowd to pack my gear and exit the venue. I had to get to Saturn Birmingham before 10:00 P.M. as Japandroids were going to take the stage around then. Thankfully, I got to the venue by 9:45 so I had plenty of time to get in position and ready for the show.
The Japandroids show did not disappoint. The lighting was top notch and really helped to establish the mood of the show. With only two members in the band, it was pretty easy to get some high quality images that featured both performers on stage. I wish I could have stayed longer to see a bit more of the show, but I did need to get home to begin the editing and transmitting process.
I am finishing typing this post up at about 1:10 A.M. on Sunday morning. It represents the last bit of work I had in terms of sending the photos off and then uploading all of them to this site. I know some might think it's ridiculous I went ahead and did all this now, but, hey, I'd rather get it out of the way late at night than do it sometime Sunday morning.
