Mom's Basement was the place to be in Birmingham, Alabama on May 22nd as Lady Legs hosted, in their words, a classic Tuesday night throwdown. The cause for celebration was the release of the band's latest album, "Holy Heatwave". The title was appropriate for the night as the large crowd packed into the confines of Mom's Basement definitely raised the temperature, but no one seemed to mind. Even though it was a Tuesday night, people came to rock out and have a good time while hearing "Holy Heatwave" played live and in full along with performances by The Bouquets and Telefones.
This was also the first live concert at Mom's Basement, the newest edition to Birmingham's bar scene. The decor and setting of the bar is, well, a basement in your mom's house. Complete with wood paneling on the walls, local youth sports trophys, and a variety of cheap canned beer, Mom's Basement was the perfect place to throw an early summer house party type show. It also brought me back to my roots as it reminded me of all those cramped, hot, and sweaty shows I photographed at Egan's back in the day. It was nice to get back and do that type of concert photography for an evening, especially with a band like Lady Legs serving as the headliner.
