Neck Deep in Concert
WorkPlay | Birmingham, Alabama | September 16th, 2018
Recap + Concert Photography
It was a pop punk kind of night WorkPlay in Birmingham, Alabama on September 16th. The Welsh band Neck Deep stopped in at the venue for a concert in the venue’s soundstage in front of a young and highly energetic audience. Neck Deep’s show was part of the second stretch of “The Peace and the Panic” tour. The tour is taking place to continue to support the band’s 2017 album of the same name, which was released on Hopeless Records. Even thouogh though Ben Barlow and company hail from Wales, they announced they were no strangers to Birmingham. Neck Deep had performed in the city years ago at the all ages venue known as The Forge, and the band was happy to be back in Birmingham. The young audience at WorkPlay was also quite happy to see Neck Deep live and in concert Singing along with the band, crowd surfing, and just generally having a good time, Neck Deep’s fans in Birmingham had a blast from start to finish.
I must say I wasn’t familiar with Neck Deep, beyond their name, going into this shoot, but I always have enjoyed photographing pop punk concerts because of the energy present. This show was no different. The band fed off the crowd, and the crowd fed off the band. That produced a fantastic atmosphere that was visually complimented with a good mix of lighting choices. As a lead singer, Barlow had great charisma on stage. He worked all sides to make sure everyone felt a part of the show. It had been a while since I last photographed a show at WorkPlay’s soundstage, and this Neck Deep concert made it a killer return.
