Avondale Brewing | Birmingham, Alabama | September 13th, 2018
Recap + Concert Photography
A little bit of early evening rain couldn’t dampen spirits at Avondale Brewing in Birmingham, Alabama on September 13th because Portugal. The Man was in town and performed in concert. The show also served as a benefit for “Noise for Now”. The Portland based group are no strangers to Birmingham, having last performed in the city in October of 2017, so they got right down to entertaining their supporters in the Magic City. An opening medley that featured covers of “For Whom the Bell Tolls” and “Another Brick in the Wall” set the tone before the band went into their own catalog of songs, such as cuts from “Woodstock”, their 2017 release on Atlantic Records.
I was able to photograph Portugal. The Man back in October of 2017 so I had a good idea what to expect from this show in terms of the visual aspect. With the concert being on an outdoor stage, I also knew the lighting would pop quite nicely. That all being said, I was not disappointed one bit with the production and presentation of the show. The concert featured an abundance of colors, lights, and video projections. In other words, it was a photographer’s dream. The members of Portugal. The Man definitely know how to focus on both the audio and visual aspects of a concert, and that is why I thoroughly enjoy getting to photograph them.
