Before their stop at Saturn Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama on March 7th, Sleigh Bells last played the Magic City around 2012, according to lead singer Alexis Krauss. The group made up for this gap with a hard hitting and electrifying at the venue.
Krauss, commanding the stage with a furious and primal energy, asked the crowd to do the same in return. She asked for 200%, even with the show being on a Tuesday evening. No one in the audience seemed to mind exerting a bit more energy to dance and thrash about while Sleigh Bells did the same on stage.
It was my first time seeing the band perform, and I was thoroughly impressed with what I saw. I had listened to their latest album, "Jessica Rabbit", before I came to photograph the show, and it was right up my alley. The group's blend of noise and pop definitely registered with me, and their frantic performance style registered with me even more. Krauss is a dynamic front woman that forces you to keep your eyes on her at all times.
I do hope there is not another 5 year gap between now and the next time Sleigh Bells performs in Birmingham.
