Fans of mixed martial arts, MMA, filled the Zamora Shrine Center in the Irondale area of Birmingham, Alabama on the evening of July 28th for a very special occasion. Strikehard productions put on "Strikehard 50", a night of 15 MMA and kickboxing events that also celebrated the longevity of the company's operations and contributions to combat sports in the area. With a mix of amateur and professional fights, Strikehard 50 was a fabulously ran show from top to bottom and featured an abundance of hard hitting action.
This was my first time photographing MMA in probably 10 years, and that happened to be a Strikehard show in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It was a blast getting to be back cageside with my camera in hand to try and capture the action. The show was incrediblly well produced and executed, and that made my job so much easier in trying to document what the fighters were doing inside the cage. I'd like to thank the fine folks at Strikehard for letting me come and photograph this show, and I'd also like to congratulate them on their 50th show overall. I'm looking forward to capturing more of these events in the future.
I'd also like to congratulate a good friend, Fred Weaver, on a 9 second knockout that capped his professional fighting career. Being able to photograph that was definitely a highlight of the evening.
Enjoy the sampling of photos from Strikehard 50. They are presented in a chronological order, and they represent, in my mind, the highlights of what I captured. More photos will be made available to Strikehard directly. If you happen to be a fighter looking for more photos from your bout, you can also contact me, and I'll be happy to give you access.
