"Goths" is the name of the latest album by The Mountain Goats, and it was a focal point at the band's performance at Saturn Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama on May 25th. "Goths" is the 16th studio album from the North Carolina based band, and a large crowd filled the venue in the Magic City to hear the new sounds John Darnielle and the rest of The Mountain Goats created.
This performance was not the first by The Mountain Goats at the venue. They last visited in October of 2015 during the promotional push for their album, "Beat the Champ". This show was similar to the 2015 one in that the venue was packed to see the band perform. It was the type of crowd that lined up well before doors opened and quickly rushed to the stage so they could get the best possible vantage point. All eyes were really on Darnielle as he alternated between work on the guitar and work behind the piano on stage.
I couldn't stay too long, but it was definitely nice to see The Mountain Goats perform again. "Beat the Champ" is a favorite album of mine due to its heavy professional wrestling influence. I have not yet gotten a chance to listen to "Goths", but I am confident the experience would be worth it since it is another concept and story album.
