The marquee for the show by Washed Out at Saturn Birmingham in Birmingham, Alabama on February 24th said "sold out", and that was no lie. A capacity crowd filled the venue to see the impressive performance put on by Ernest Greene and his backing band. This particular concert by Washed Out was part of the ongoing Mister Mellow tour to support the album of the same name, which was released in Junen of 2017.
I knew to expect a chilled and laid back show from Washed Out, but I didn't know much past this. I'm glad I went in with basically a clean slate because the show was rather impressive. The production and presentation of Washed Out's performance were both aces. A video screen containing all sorts of animation served as a backdrop and the primary source of lighting. This particular feature at a concert is always a treat because it allows for experimentation and creativity in the post-processing and editing state. I really got to play around with the color structure and tones of the images. The animation also blended in quite well with Washed Out's music and lyrics, thus producing an overall positive sensory experience.
I must admit I was a bit worried about these photos. The crowd was tightly packed in so I was concerned I'd get trapped in at a bad angle. Thankfully, though, I was able to manuever the room to my liking and walked away with photos from this show that I'm more than happy to share with you all. It was definitely worth the wait in a packed crowd.
