Nashville singer-songwriter Will Hoge is no stranger to Birmingham, Alabama. He's performed in the city before, but, in the past, it was with a backing band. Things were a bit different on March 29th as Will Hoge performed at Saturn Birmingham. This show was an intimate seated show that featured Will Hoge and only Will Hoge on stage.
Performing solo has helped Hoge rekindle his love for music as the artist has said he felt like he had fallen out of love with being in a band. Seeing Will Hoge perform in this setting showed me that he is definitely enjoying the creative freedom afforded to him. Not being bound by performance restrictions has been incredibly liberating for Will Hoge, and I can definitely understand his happiness in that regard.
This concert from Will Hoge was also special for me because it signifies a particular personal milestone. In April, I'll hit my 5 year anniversary of doing credentialed shows for a wire service. The first show I ever photographed for that wire service? A Will Hoge show in Birmingham. Getting to photograph him so close to the 5 year mark definitely meant a lot to me for a large number of reasons. These past 5 years have been fantastic, and I hope this is a way of saying the next 5 will be just as good.
